UI IS OUR NATIONAL PATRIMONY ....Gov. Okowa
Delta state Governor, Senator (Dr.) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa has described the University of Ibadan (UI) as a national patrimony that has contributed greatly to the unity and development of the country in no small measures .
Governor Okowa who paid a courtesy call on the UI Vice Chancellor , Prof. Idowu Olayinka ahead of the 2017 UI Alumni Lecture he would be delivering at 4 pm at Trenchard Hall noted that Ibadan has done so much for the country in terms of production of quality human resources from different parts of Nigeria .
The Medical Doctor-turned politician who is an alumnus of UI expressed happiness with the spate of the development within the campus since he left Ibadan over three decades ago.
According to the governor who was accompanied by a sizable crowd, "despite the various challenges confronting higher education in Nigeria , it is a thing of joy to see UI waxing stronger than ever before , even as it maintains its integrity and standard. The environment is clean. The trees make for a decent academic environment "
Earlier in his welcome remarks, UI VC, Prof. Olayinka noted that a great institution like UI is known by the quality of the products it turns out, pointing out that "when our alumni are making waves in the society , it is an indication that we are doing well here"
Prof. Olayinka who listed a number of UI graduates who are Governors and Deputy Governors across the country appealed to UI alumni to always look back with a view to assisting their alma mater.
Governor Okowa will be speaking on a lecture entitled "Good Governance for Wealth Creation and Sustainable Development : Experiences and Lessons "
